Goku, known as Son Goku (孫 悟空 Son Gokū ) in the original Japanese-language version, is a fictional character and the main protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise created by Akira Toriyama. He is based on Sun Wukong, a central character in Journey to the West; Toriyama changed some of his characteristics. Goku is introduced as a strange, monkey-tailed boy who practices martial arts and possesses superhuman strength.[1] At first, Goku is believed to be an Earthling, but he is later revealed to be a member of an extraterrestrial warrior race called the Saiyans.[2]
In Dragon Ball, Goku trains in various martial arts and searches the planet for the mythical Dragon Balls. He meets other characters with similar goals, such as Bulma, with whom Goku travels to find the Dragon Balls. As Goku matures, he becomes one of Earth's strongest warriors and protects it from villains who wish to harm it. Goku is depicted as carefree and aloof when at ease but quickly becomes serious when fighting. Goku is able to concentrate his chi and uses it for energy-based attacks, the most prominent being his signature Kamehameha, in which Goku launches a blue energy wave from his hands.
Dalam Dragon Ball, Goku dilatih dalam pelbagai pencak dan mencari di planet untuk mencari Dragon Balls. Dia berjumpa watak-watak lain dengan matlamat yang serupa, seperti Bulma, kawan Goku mengembara untuk mencari Dragon Balls. Apabila Goku matang, dia menjadi satu daripada pahlawan-pahlawan terkuat Bumi dan melindunginya dari penjahat-penjahat yang mahu merosakkannya. Goku digambarkan sebagai peramah apabila lenang tetapi dengan cepat menjadi serius apabila pergaduhan. Goku mampu menumpukan chinya dan menggunakannya untuk serangan-serangan berasaskan tenaga,yang paling terkenal ialah Kamehameha , di mana Goku melancarkan gelombang tenaga biru dari tangan dia.
